Ingredients:
- Evaporated Milk – Provides the liquidy texture
- Cocoa Powder – adds chocolate and helps thicken chocolate sauce. Try to use name brand cocoa powder to avoid lumps in sauce.
- Sugar – I used white sugar, but brown sugar can also be used
- Corn Syrup – adds sweetness and shine to sauce
- Chocolate Chips – thickens mixture and adds chocolate flavor
- Butter – adds glossy shine
- Vanilla – brings out flavor
How to Make Hot Fudge:
- Heat together all ingredients besides chocolate chips, butter, and vanilla – the purpose of this is to dissolve the sugar without burning the chocolate chips
- Add remaining ingredients off heat – this will help the mixture not become grainy
FAQs About Hot Fudge:
Yes, store finished product in a sealed jar in fridge for up to one month. Reheat by using the microwave stirring every 15 seconds for even heat distribution.
Reheat by placing in the microwave for about 15 seconds at a time, stirring in-between.
Hot fudge is naturally thick when cool. As it heats, the thinner it gets. If you still find it to be too thick when hot, try adding corn syrup to thin the mixture. If you find it to be too thin, add more cocoa powder.
Tips:
- Use a bigger sauce pan – a large pan would help evenly distribute heat so the chocolate melts more evenly.
- Use quality chocolate – some people think chocolate chips cannot be used for making hot fudge because they don’t melt as easy as baking chocolate. Baking chocolate is not something most people have in their pantry. Chocolate chips definitely can be used if you do not have baking chocolate.
- Make glossy finish – add a little bit of corn syrup or extra butter to add shine.
- No high heat – we do not want our chocolate sauce to burn. Only use medium heat or else it can result in a grainy texture.
Ways to Use Hot Fudge Sauce:
A few examples of how to serve hot fudge include pouring on cookies, ice cream, brownies, pancakes, waffles, edible cookie dough, chocolate milkshake, etc. Hot fudge tastes great by itself too!
